Electricity consumers to start paying bills pegged against the dollar

Power consumers will beginning January 2013 experience a change in the price of electricity as the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA)moves to peg power tariffs against the dollar.
The rates will also be affected by other macro-economic factors, including movements of fuel prices and inflation.
Mr John Julius Wandera, the ERA spokesperson, confirmed the development, saying the system would be implemented beginning January 2013. However, he added: “We are still engaging other stakeholders on how best this will be effected.” Additionally, an increase or a fall in inflation as well as fuel prices is likely to bring a corresponding change on the power tariffs.
